Christ in You

“Christ in You” – What Does it Mean?

This article discusses the meaning of “Christ in you” contrasting the traditional belief with an alternate, more accurate understanding.

This concept is the true foundation of salvation in the Celestial Heavens, if correctly understood. Many believe that it is only necessary to believe in Jesus as one’s savior through his sacrificial death and that in so believing, they have Christ in them. They don’t understand the distinction between Jesus, the man, and Christ, the spirit of truth – the spirit that manifests the existence of the Divine Love in the soul. The word Christ actually means “anointed” — it is a title or a descriptor, so Jesus Christ means “anointed savior.” How did Jesus receive this anointing?

In reality, Christ is not a man in the sense of being Jesus, the son of the Father. Rather, Christ is that part or quality of Jesus that he acquired after fully receiving into his soul the Divine Love imparted by the Holy Spirit (Rom. 5:5). His soul was thereby transformed into the very essence of the Father which is His Love. Christ is thus the manifestation of this Love as bestowed upon Jesus and made part of his existence. Therefore, the expression of “having Christ in you” means the presence of the Divine Love of the Father in one’s soul.

The indiscriminate and interchangeable use of the words “Jesus” and “Christ” is the cause of much confusion and misunderstanding. It would be impossible for Jesus, the man, to get into or become a part of any mortal, and the same holds true for Christ as the perfect man free from sin. Rather, the meaning of having Christ in you is to have the Love of the Father in your soul, which can only be obtained through the working of the Holy Spirit as the instrument of the Father. This happens as a result of an earnest heartfelt prayer.

Jesus became the Christ only because he was the first to receive the Divine Love into his soul and manifest its existence. He was also the first to preach this message of Divine Love and the Holy Spirit (Rom. 5:5 and many other places). It was his gospel of the Kingdom (used in Matt. 24:14 and 64 other times throughout the gospels and epistles), also referred to as the gospel of grace (Acts 20:24), gospel about Jesus Christ (Mark 1:1);  gospel of Christ (Rom. 15:19 and seven other references); gospel of the glory of Christ (2 Cor 4:4); gospel of God’s son (Rom 1:9); gospel of our Lord Jesus (2 Thess. 1:8); gospel of God (Rom. 15:16 and five other references); gospel of the blessed God (1 Tim 1:11); gospel of your salvation (Eph. 1:13); and gospel of peace (Eph. 1:13).

The Divine Love or Christ principle (anointing) is available to all. The result is that they will become at one with the Father in His substance of Love and immortality. They become a saved and redeemed child of God. Jesus is the first-born of many siblings and the one who brought immortality and salvation to light (2 Tim 1:9-10).

Salvation – entering/seeing the Kingdom is by grace. It is not dependent on anything that we have done and is not earned or deserved by us. Jesus also told Nicodemus that the condition for seeing the Kingdom was to be born again (John 3:3). The new birth also means to have one’s soul transformed by the Divine Love from the image of God into the substance of God and to become at one with God through fully acquiring His divine nature (2 Pet. 1:4). Those so transformed become God’s true and redeemed children who can enter the Kingdom of God and become immortal divine angels.

Everything for our salvation can be given to us freely by God and is available for the asking through sincere heartfelt prayer. All we need to do is graciously accept these gifts and work on increasing them in our lives – grow in the divine nature and in God’s Love so that we will reach the point of full soul transformation into sinless divine beings – a totally new creation (2 Cor 5:17).
