Love in Action

This page links to stories of love in action exemplifying modern ways of following Jesus in loving one’s neighbor as oneself and loving as Jesus loved.

Jesus Christ came to earth as a messenger and example of God’s love. He spent a large part of his ministry going from place to place, doing good, and thereby alleviating suffering. Jesus’ actions of compassion included healing the sick, casting out demons, feeding the hungry, and giving hope for a better life hereafter. He instructed his followers to love one another and to do unto others as they have seen him do. This would glorify the Father in heaven. (See John 3:16; Matthew 10:5-8; 14:14; 15:37; Luke 9:11-17; John 13:34-35; Matthew 5:14-16; Philippians 1:11; Titus 2:14.)

Actions have impact – it is said that actions speak louder than words. We tend to remember what people did for us rather than what they said or promised to do. If a picture is worth a thousand words, an action may be worth ten thousand or more. Loving actions are in harmony with the will of God who is love – and may indeed be God’s answer to someone’s need. Through our loving actions, people may see God at work in their lives. Interestingly, the reverse is also true. Jesus said that when we help and meet the needs of others by relieving their hunger, thirst, lack of clothing, or loneliness, we are serving him (Matthew 25:35-36; cf. Prov. 19:17).
